What is an Orthodontist?

Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is that branch and specialty of dentistry concerned with the supervision, guidance and correction of the growing or mature dentofacial structures and the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of any abnormalities associated with these structures. (Canadian Dental Association)

Orthodontists are experts in lining up and straightening jaws and teeth. They require additional two to three years of specialty training beyond dental school. Orthodontists treat kids and adults for many problems, from having crowded or spaced teeth, to problems with jaw growth and alignment. These tooth and jaw problems may be caused by tooth decay, losing baby or adult teeth too soon, accidents, or habits like thumb sucking. Using braces, retainers, and a lot of love and laughter, an orthodontist helps creating beautiful smiles.

While there are many orthodontists out there, we are confident that you will find PacificWest’s professional and friendly service meets your needs. We welcome you to learn more about who we are and our services, and please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions!
