What's involved?
It involves a smartphone, two teaspoons, and a second person to take the photos. THAT’S ALL!!

The virtual consultation is a virtual meeting between the patient, the orthodontist, and the treatment coordinator from our office. Since we are not able to meet our patient physically–except on an emergency basis–we need our patient to do a little “photo shoot” before the we schedule the virtual consult.
This whole thing may sound odd, but it works really well. We’re finding that virtual consultations are great!
It involves a smartphone, two teaspoons, and a second person to take the photos. If you are doing this on your own, you will need a phone stand (a clear bubble teacup cut in half, for example, would work) to take video.
We also require patient to filled out the new patient form and medical history form as they would when they go to any clinic. If anything here is not clear, then please contact us at pacificwestorthodontics@gmail.com.
What does it cost?
The initial virtual consultation is free.
With this FREE consultation, patient gets to learn more about their oral condition and how the treatment works.
It does not cost the patient anything. The initial virtual consultation is free. All the patient needs to do is to meet with us online for a 30-minute meeting from the comfort of patient’s home.
With this FREE consultation, patient gets to learn more about their oral condition and how the treatment works. They hear about which appliance is probably better for that particular patient and why, the duration of treatment and the estimated cost of the treatment.
Potential patients can also ask any other questions they might have before proceeding with treatment. Here’s how it works.
During the 30-minute virtual consultation the patient will do the following:
- Meet the orthodontist and treatment coordinator.
- Go over the conditions of the teeth based on the photo/video submitted.
- Hear about the treatment options, the main three types of braces (braces, Invisalign and lingual braces).
- Discuss the duration of the treatment.
- Receive an estimated cost of the treatment.
- Learn about current technology we use to speed up your treatment as well as how we handle pain management.
- Discuss payment options that fit the patient’s budget
- Have an opportunity to ask questions.
What happens during the virtual consultation?
Based on the information, picture/ video you provided, we will go over the treatment plan, option, treatment duration and different payment options.

After the consultation, we will send a summary of the consultation with contact information so the patient has all the information we covered.
When all of the questions are answered and the patient is ready to go ahead with the treatment both physically and financially, we will book them in for a full-mouth, oral record, and start the treatment.

Where does the consultation take place?
We generally use the video conferencing app, Zoom, to conduct the meeting.
We can also do our meetings over other platforms such as Facebook video conference, WhatsApp, WeChat, or other platform if the patient prefers.

The orthodontists at Pacific West Dental have plenty of flexibility for seeing patients virtually. We would like to keep patients safe from COVID-19 and at the same time not put their lives on hold and be able to start the treatment process virtually.
When this pandemic is over, and everyone’s life is back to normal, we will still keep this virtual consultation as we know that this brings value and flexibility to our patients’ busy schedules.
